About this chart

This interactive visualization shows the monthly global mean surface temperature anomaly as recorded by NASA's GISTEMP dataset. The original anomalies (relative to 1951–1980) have been rebased to the 1880–1920 pre-industrial baseline, making the values directly comparable to the Paris Agreement targets (1.5°C and 2.0°C).

The chart includes horizontal threshold lines for the Paris Agreement 1.5°C target and the 2.0°C danger limit. The orange line shows a 12-month running mean, and the cyan stepped line shows decadal averages. The warming stripes below the chart provide a visual summary of the entire temperature record.

The dataset combines sea surface temperature data (ERSSTv5) with surface air temperature data from meteorological stations (GHCN-v4), providing a comprehensive picture of global temperature changes since 1880.
